Stickers used in drink campaign

Police have been trialling a new scheme to tackle underage drinking in a Derbyshire town.

Ten off-licences in the Ilkeston area have been issued with different coloured stickers to attach to bottles and cans containing alcohol.

Sgt Doug Neely said the scheme would deter staff from selling alcohol to the under-18s as officers could quickly identify where it had been sold.

The stickers have been funded by the Erewash Community Safety Partnership.

They are made with an extra strong adhesive to make them difficult to remove.

Sgt Neely said: "It is a simple scheme but one which helps send out the message that we want to stop the supply of alcohol to under age people and will target... the premises who are involved in such sales."
