A former teacher has admitted repeatedly raping a young girl and taking photographs of pupils.

Neil Challis, 35, from Old Chester Road in Chester Green, taught in 13 different schools across Derbyshire - mainly as a supply teacher.

Derby Crown Court heard he first abused the girl, who was not a pupil, when she was five and continued for four years.

When arrested, police found 3,940 indecent images on his laptop. He is to be sentenced at a later date.

Most of the images were downloaded from the internet but some were of the attacks on the girl.

Criminal checks

Others were from a camera used to secretly take photographs up the skirts of girls Challis taught.

Police investigating the case said they were almost certain there were no further victims in the schools system.

However they said they would hand over their files to authorities in the US, where Challis worked in summer camps.

Teaching authorities in Derby and Derbyshire said that he was subject to a criminal record check but had no record when he got his supply job.
