Mother and baby rescued from fire

Fire-damaged house
The ground floor of the house was well alight

A mother and her baby son were sent to hospital after being rescued from a burning house in Derby.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue were called to Mayfield Road in Chaddesden shortly after midnight where a baby was rescued from a first-floor window.

Fire crews tackled the blaze on the ground floor. First aid was administered but no-one was injured.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but a fire service spokesman said that an investigation is under way.

Neighbour Daniel Powell, who saw the baby being rescued, said: "I looked out and a baby came out the top window wrapped in a towel...fireman caught it and there was a young woman, as well, screaming."
