Man rescued from city flat fire

A man has been rescued and taken to hospital after a flat fire in Derby city centre.

The fire broke out in a flat on the second floor of a building on Elms Street just before noon, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said.

The flat was seriously damaged, but adjoining properties were not affected.

The man, who had burns and suffered smoke inhalation from the fire, was taken to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary for treatment.

An investigation is under way into the exact cause of the fire.
