Missionary, 77, killed in Kenya

A British Catholic missionary has been killed in Kenya, in what officials believe was a robbery at his home.

Brian Thorp, aged 77 and originally from Bamford in Derbyshire, had been working as a missionary in the Indian Ocean town of Lamu when he was killed.

A Foreign Office spokesman said Mr Thorp was found dead on Thursday.

It is believed Mr Thorp's funeral will be held on Tuesday but further details have not yet been released. He had been a Mill Hill Missionary since 1968.

He had worked as a missionary in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and Uganda.

Police in Kenya are continuing with their investigations into Mr Thorp's murder.
