Hikers rescued from beauty spot

Mountain rescue teams were called out after a group of six students from Manchester became disorientated while walking in the Peak District.

The men, aged between 19 and 20 years old, had set off from Glossop on Tuesday morning.

The hikers reached Kinder Downfall during the afternoon, followed Kinder River but then lost their bearings.

Over 80 volunteers from Buxton, Edale and Kinder Rescue Teams and three dogs were used in the search for the men.

Constant contact was maintained with the missing party by mobile phone.

The students were located by one of the search dogs during the rescue operation which lasted six hours.

The men were assessed by the mountain rescue teams and escorted on foot to the village of Edale.

None of them required medical attention.
