Smokers asked to hand in ashtrays
An ashtray amnesty is being held in Derby to help encourage smokers to quit their cigarette habits.

People who hand their ashtrays to staff at the city's Eagle Market will be offered advice on how to quit.

The ashtrays will be sorted and sent off for recycling. Participants will be given free items including toothbrushes and smoking calculators.

Cllr Richard Smalley said: "By handing in ashtrays for recycling smokers will be doing something positive."

The amnesty is part of national No Smoking Day.

Mr Smalley added: "Our officers have chosen a highly visible way to get this important message over and I hope that smokers will rise to the challenge and quit for good."
