Villagers worried over dam leak
Flooded bank
About 30 homes were damaged by the water and slurry in January
Residents of a Derbyshire village which was flooded when a lagoon at a quarry overflowed are concerned over a new leak found at another reservoir.

About 30 homes were damaged when water and slurry flooded into Stoney Middleton in January.

Now the Environment Agency has been told about a leak from another lagoon.

Glebe Mines, in charge of the quarry, said the hole had been repaired and a review of the circumstances surrounding the latest leak had started.

Smaller lagoon

The company's integration manager Gary Goodyear said in a statement that he understood residents' concerns and added a review of the latest leak incident was under way.

But ecology lecturer Steve Furness said he feared the consequences of another flood.

"Earlier in the year, a much smaller lagoon burst and flooded Stoney Middleton.

"This lagoon is on a much bigger scale and if these reservoirs went, then I'm sure it would cause much greater problems and even loss of life."

Michelle Dolphin from the Environment Agency said the hole was plugged on Friday and investigations were continuing.
