Railway trust gets lottery cash

The trust has been going since the 1970s
A heritage railway trust has won an £80,000 lottery award to extend its property in Derbyshire.

Midland Railway Trust, which runs a line between Butterley and Swanwick Junction, was awarded the cash from the Big Lottery Fund.

Development officer Alan Calladine said it would allow the trust to buy land to extend its country park.

The trust moved an entire 1850s station from Syston near Leicester to Swanwick in 2005.

"It will really open up the land for local people to have a wander around and look at us any time they want," Mr Calladine said.

"It will safeguard the area for the indefinite future for the people of the area to enjoy."

The railway trust has been in operation since the 1970s.
