Five dead after two cars collide
Two children and three men have died in a head-on collision in Derbyshire.

Police were called to Chesterfield Road in Shuttlewood, near Chesterfield, at about 1515 BST on Saturday.

The men were in a Ford Sierra and the children, aged four and seven, were in a Renault Megane. Their mother was driving and was treated at the scene.

Police said a local 17-year-old boy was in custody as they investigated whether a motorbike and the Sierra had been racing each other before the crash.

Police appeal

A 12-year-old boy, the nephew of the Megane driver, was also treated at the scene for his injuries.

Both he and his aunt are recovering in hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

All those who died in the collision are believed to be from the Shuttlewood area but police have not yet released their identities.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said they would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the cars in the area, or a trials-type motorcycle, before or during the incident.
