Murder weapon 'was baseball bat'
Melvyn Hadley
Police described the attack as 'ferocious'
A Derby man who was killed in a street attack was assaulted with a baseball bat, police have revealed.

Melvyn Hadley Junior, 20, was found with head injuries near his home on Almond Street, Normanton, in the early hours of Sunday.

Detectives said they were looking for an Asian man seen in the area and had searched a house on Duncan Avenue.

There is still no indication of a motive for the attack and more witnesses are being sought.

Det Insp Steve Pont said it was crucial they find the weapon used as soon as possible.

"If anyone finds this weapon discarded in a bin or in their garden it is vital they get in touch with police."

Melvyn's mother has also made an appeal for help tracing her son's killer.

Tanya Higgins described her son as a "homely lad who loved his family.... and was a free spirit".
