Murder probe after man assaulted
Melvyn Hadley
Police are trying to find a motive for Mr Hadley's murder
Police have begun a murder investigation after a man died in an assault on a street in Derby.

It happened at about 0430 BST on Sunday on Almond Street in Normanton, Derby.

Detectives say the man who died, 20-year-old Melvyn Hadley Junior, of Almond Street, was involved in a "ferocious" attack.

Det Supt Tony Blockley of Derbyshire Police said: "He was assaulted with what's been described as a pole or an instrument of some sort."

He added: "He lived with his mum and stepdad and by all accounts kept himself very much to himself.

"The early indications are that only one person was involved but we're keeping an open mind about that.

"There doesn't appear to be a motive for the killing."
