Hi-tech cameras deter criminals
A state-of-the-art CCTV system should help prevent crime in parts of Derbyshire, police have said.

The new digital system will feed live images into police networks in Matlock and Chesterfield.

The cameras are currently being tested in Matlock and Matlock Bath and should be up and running by mid-June.

Ch Insp Pat Walker said: "The new system... uses the latest technology to help keep the Derbyshire Dales one of the safest places in the country."

Insp Paul Corton said that although they were not in a high-crime area, the CCTV cameras would make a "positive contribution" to the area's safety.

"Matlock was one of the few towns in Derbyshire without a modern CCTV system. This made it vulnerable to travelling criminals coming in for what they might see as easy pickings," he said.

"Our new cameras will help us to deter these opportunistic criminals."
