Delays to county's 'superschool'
Work on a £4m "superschool" in Derbyshire has been delayed while planning issues are resolved, council officials have said.

Derbyshire County Council plans to replace Clay Cross infant and junior schools and Danesmoor Infant School with a single school off Pilsley Road.

But some residents have raised objections and land ownership issues still need to be resolved.

This means the school will now be finished by November or December 2007.

Councillor Alan Charles, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for school planning and support, said: "Getting the proposals to this stage has been a lengthy and complex process.

"It is essential that proper procedures are followed so that all pupils in Clay Cross will soon be able to learn in a state-of-the-art school."

The new school will have a playing field and computer workstations throughout the building.
