Parking ticket crackdown on city
Five times as many traffic wardens will be patrolling the streets of Derby in the future, drivers have been warned.

The city council has taken over parking enforcement from the police and from 3 July there will be 25 full time staff compared to just five previously.

Officials said access and pavements were being blocked and predicted a sharp rise in tickets issued.

Councillor Chris Wynn of Transport for Derby, said motorists had got used to "not having to worry".

He added: "I would guess there are going to be several tens of thousands of tickets issued every year.

"This is certainly the case in the short term as motorists have got used to not having to worry."

However, there will be a three week grace period when motorists will be given a chance to get used to the changes.
