Drive to 'unearth' new Lara Croft
Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft
The iconic Lara Croft's creators are based at Derby's Pride Park
Tutors at the University of Derby have said they are hoping to discover the next Lara Croft with the launch of a new computer design course.

The university unveiled its new computer games modelling and animation degree course on Monday.

The three year qualification is being backed by the Derby-based Core Design firm, which created the striking Tomb Raider character.

The drive is in response to a shortage of artists in the industry.

Gavin Rummery, of Core Design, said: "The industry needs to recruit more people with an artistic speciality, a flair for developing animation, 3D design or other areas.

"Lara Croft was successful because the character broke the mould as a strong female character and something different.

"Perhaps Derby's new course can help us find the next Lara Croft."
