Quarry campaign decides on action
Backdale Quarry
MMC has three days to comply with the notice
Campaigners trying to halt work at a North Derbyshire quarry are set to issue the owners with a "stop notice".

The Peak District National Park Authority will hand the notice to MMC Ltd to stop alleged unlawful work at Backdale Quarry on Longstone Ridge.

Protesters believe far more limestone than allowed is being extracted. MMC will have three days to respond to the order or face criminal proceedings.

The authority's action has received financial help from the government.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said it had intervened in the dispute because of the "exceptional" nature of the countryside and other circumstances.
