Development's future in 'limbo'
Derby bus station
No one knows when work will start
Controversial plans for central Derby's redevelopment may be in jeopardy according to council leaders.

The city's £90m Riverlights project, which includes the redevelopment of the now-closed bus station, has been put on hold, with no start date set.

One of developer Metroholst's directors has been taken ill and so all plans are on hold.

Derby City Council's leader Chris Williamson also admitted the bus station had been closed too early.

Suffering a 'blip'

A new developer is being sought to begin and complete the work.

Chris Williamson said: "The project is in limbo and has been in limbo for some time.

"There has been a problem that the developer has been unable to take the project forward but the developer has now acknowledged this and is working to find an alternative developer to ensure it can be completed."

He added that in hindsight, the bus station should not have been closed so early and that the Riverlights project was suffering a 'blip'.

He did, however, say he remained positive about the project's future.
