A UK call centre is cutting almost 900 jobs after its major client announced it is moving its business overseas.
Workers at Client Logic in Derby and Bristol were told phone giant BT is moving its broadband business to India.
The office on Great Northern Road will close in the spring. BT said workers will be offered jobs at call centres in Stoke, Nottingham or Leicester.
The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) opposes the move and will meet with company bosses on Wednesday.
CWU spokeswoman Sally Bridge has described the decision was "a disgrace".
A total of 144 full-time staff and 470 contract and agency workers in Derby will lose their jobs, with 304 jobs at risk in Bristol.
"By awarding this contract to a supplier (with offices) in India, BT is blatantly circumventing its social obligation," Ms Bridge said.
"What a disastrous Christmas present this news is for Client Logic's employees in Derby and Bristol, to hear their jobs will no longer exist because BT has decided to source its broadband support services offshore."
BT spokesman Mike Jarvis said the firm is confident the move to India will be done "without sacrificing the quality of the call centre service".
He said there are "very high standards of service" at its existing call centres in Bangalore and New Delhi.
BT put its broadband help service out to tender and another firm - HCL - won the contract and will provide the service from India, he said.
The phone company will offer displaced workers at Client Logic's Derby site the possibility of working at one of its call centres in Nottingham, Leicester or Stoke, he said.
In a separate development, Mr Jarvis said BT is also creating 600 additional UK jobs across sales, repair and service in its broadband division.
