Late-night bus axed over attacks
Vandals have forced late-night buses off the roads in a Derbyshire village.

Arriva Midlands has diverted its number 15 service away from Stanton at night after three buses had windows smashed by pellets fired from the roadside.

It has left villagers without the service, which travels to Queen's Hospital, after 2100 BST.

Arriva spokesman Keith Myatt said: "We have been forced on this occasion to protect the safety of our customers and drivers and divert the buses away."

Police action

No-one has been injured during the incidents.

Mr Myatt said: "We don't like taking buses away and diverting them from the established routes because we don't like to inconvenience our customers."

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said they would take action against anyone caught targeting buses.

He added: "If they are using a weapon of some sort, then that is an offence in itself.

"They are endangering not only people on the bus but other road users as well."
