Demolition for ex-register office
Derby's new register office opens its doors on Tuesday as the current Traffic Street site is to make way for an extension to the Eagle Centre.

The revamped Royal Oak House, on Tenant Street, is on the site of the former Royal Oak Inn dating back to 1732.

It was a solicitors' office for more than 50 years and is now owned by Derby City Council.

The existing office, which had been used since 1986, is being demolished as part of a shopping centre extension.

Westfield Shopping Towns Limited, the company which owns the shopping centre, agreed to pay the cost of converting and refurbishing Royal Oak House.

Staff at Derby Register office carry out around 500 marriage ceremonies a year. The first wedding at the new building will take place on Friday morning.
