Attackers' jail terms increased

Three men who were recruited to beat up a riding instructor have had their jail sentences increased.

The three all pleaded guilty in April this year to conspiracy to rob Tania Moore, 26, of Alkmonton, Derbys.

The Appeal Court said the attack by John Booth, 25, Darryl Worsdale, 18, and Craig Stonier, 43, all of Stoke on Trent, was "terrifying".

Booth's sentence was increased to five and a half years, Stonier's to five years and Worsdale's to three years.

A fourth man who was present on the night Miss Moore was killed by Mark Dyche, 36, did not have his punishment increased after judges heard he gave crucial evidence for the prosecution.

The judge said that, although a higher sentence could have passed on Colin Colley, 41, of Waterside Drive, Stoke on Trent because of his help to the Crown, his term could not be described as "unduly lenient".

Booth had received a four year sentence, Stonier a two-and-a-half year term and Worsdale had been sentenced to a year in a young offenders' institution.

Isolated farm

Colley was jailed for three and a half years after admitting conspiracy to inflict grievous bodily harm on Miss Moore in a separate incident.

Dyche, who recruited all four men involved in the two offences, was convicted of conspiracy to rob and murder and received a life sentence with a tariff of 30 years.

Judges heard in June 2003 Booth and Worsdale attacked Miss Moore with a baseball bat at the isolated farm where she lived while Stonier drove the getaway car.

The trio had been instructed by Dyche to frighten Miss Moore and steal a valuable watch and her mobile telephone - and were paid a total of £2,000 to do so.

In March 2004 Colley accompanied Dyche when Miss Moore's former lover drove her car off the road near the farm and fatally shot in her in the face with a shotgun.
