New site for county 'superschool'

Plans to build a £4m 'superschool' in Derbyshire have been revised after parents raised concerns about the site.

Proposals were put forward last year to replace Clay Cross infant and junior schools and Danesmoor Infant School with a single school.

But some parents raised concerns over the accessibility of the proposed site off Flaxpiece Road.

The county council is now launching a new consultation process, with a second site, off Pilsley Road, put forward.

Councillor Alan Charles, cabinet member for school planning and support, said: "When we carried out the original consultation we promised to listen to all views expressed before making any decisions.

"A significant number of people said they supported the principle of a new single site school but thought the site off Flaxpiece Road was not very accessible for them so we have looked carefully to see what alternatives are available."

The new school will include a spacious playing field and computer workstations throughout the building.
