Gates go up at troubled village
A Derbyshire village is getting a makeover in an attempt to reduce anti-social behaviour.

Government funds of £10,000 are being spent on installing gates, opening up alleyways and improving street lighting at the Beresford Road Flats in Sawley.

The site is one of 77 areas in England and Wales being improved by Operation Gate It, a scheme designed by Home Office Minister Hazel Blears.

The project follows a trial at 11 similar areas in June 2004.

Ms Blears said: "By reinvesting in these areas, through better design, lighting or simply gating them off, local people are able to reclaim these spaces for themselves and their children and so drive out the anti-social minority."
