A father and son have died after they were hit by a train travelling from Nottingham to Derby.
The father was apparently trying to save his son who was on the track at Long Eaton station in Derbyshire at about 0055 BST on Sunday.
Derbyshire Police have spoken to the next of kin of the men, who were from Kirby-in-Ashfield in Notts, but no other details have been released.
Train services on Sunday were not affected by the tragedy.
Officers from the British Transport Police are investigating.
Thoughts with family
The train was operated by Midland Mainline but did not have any passengers on board at the time.
Emma Knight, from the train operator, said: "Obviously our thoughts are with the family.
"We are extremely distressed to hear about what happened last night.
"We are not experiencing any delays this morning because of the incident. All our trains are running on time, the line is fully open and operational again."
It is not known how fast the train was travelling but speeds of up to 80mph are allowed on that part of the track.
Separately, a third man died at Codnor Park, near Ripley, Derbyshire, when he was hit by a Nottingham to Sheffield train at 2145 BST on Saturday.
