The site has attracted protests by concerned families

The permanent end of nuclear waste disposal at a Derbyshire landfill site has come one step closer.
A report from the Evironment Agency has suggested that Rolls-Royce should no longer use the landfill site in Crich.
The company has had to reapply to the Environment Agency for the right to dispose of low-level radioactive waste produced at its Raynesway Sites.
It had been using Hilts Quarry in Crich for decades, despite prolonged campaigning from residents in the village, but stopped using it last year.
New targets
The site is still open should Royce need to use it again.
But now, draft authorisations have been produced and are being sent out for consultation.
If they are granted, it would mean that any low level nuclear waste would be sent to a site in Cumbria rather than Crich on a permanent basis.
And Rolls-Royce would be forced to meet new targets to reduce contamination to local air and sewer supplies.
