Six flights to and from the East Midlands have been cancelled due to industrial action in France.

An East Midlands Airport spokeswoman has also warned other flights may be affected and people should check with their airline before travelling.

Airline bmibaby has cancelled six flights from East Midlands airport to and from Paris and Nice on Tuesday.

The affected flights are 5011, 5012, 5013, 5014, 5381 and 5382.

bmibaby has also been forced to cancel four flights between Cardiff and Paris.

Across the country, thousands of Britons are expected to be affected on airlines and ferries.

The French workers' action is over retirement benefits ahead of planned pension reforms by the French government.

British Airways, which operates flights to France from seven UK airports, is expecting to operate only 10 of its normal 120 daily French flights.

The port of Calais is due to be closed for part of Tuesday and P&O Ferries said it was not expecting to operate Dover to Calais services from early morning to mid-afternoon.
