Icy roads warning for motorists

Snowy road - generic
Drivers are being warned to expect disruption

Drivers in Cumbria are being advised to take extra care after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning.

Further showers of sleet and snow are predicted in the county over the next few days.

The Met Office said with the ground temperature at about or below freezing this would lead to the formation of icy stretches in many areas.

On Monday, several drivers were reported to have ignored closure signs on the A686 from Penrith to Alston.
