Armed robber targets bookmakers

Police are hunting an armed robber who targeted a betting shop in Carlisle.

The man, whose face was covered, entered Coral bookmakers in Old Raffles Parade wielding what was described as a machete-type implement.

He threatened staff and demanded cash, before leaving with an undisclosed quantity. No one was injured, but staff were left shaken.

Anyone with information about the incident at about 2000 BST on Friday, is asked to contact Cumbria Police.

He is described as about 5ft 8ins tall and was wearing a dark, hooded top. Police said he spoke with a local accent.
