Teenage jogger reveals sex attack

An investigation is under way after a teenager was sexually assaulted while jogging in a village in Cumbria.

The 16-year-old was on Badgers Lonning near Lazonby when she was knocked to the ground and subjected to a physical and sexual assault.

Cumbria Police said the incident, which happened on the evening of 5 August, had only recently been reported.

Her attacker was in his late 20s, of slim build and tanned. Anyone with information should contact police.

Det Insp Doug Marshall said: "There are many reasons why victims don't always come forward at the time of the offence, and now this incident has been reported, the victim has our full support and we are focusing all our efforts on trying to identify the person responsible.

"The assault took place during the summer holidays when the skies were still bright at eight in the evening, so someone may have noticed someone acting suspiciously while they were walking their dog or driving in the area."
