Drink-driving ban for goalkeeper

Lenny Pidgeley
Carlisle Utd have also disciplined the goalkeeper

Carlisle United's goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley has been banned from driving for three-and-a-half years after admitting drinking and driving.

The 25-year-old was driving his Mercedes M1 at about 100mph (160km/h) before police stopped him on the A6 at Carleton, city magistrates heard.

He was breathalysed and found to be nearly twice the legal alcohol limit.

Pidgeley, of Parkland Drive, Carlisle, was disqualified for 42 months and fined £900.

Through his lawyer, the footballer said he had not planned to drive on 30 August, and at the time did not think he had had too much to drink.

Carlisle United FC have disciplined Pidgeley but have not made the amount public, the court was told.

The goalkeeper, who previously played for Chelsea and Milwall, was signed by the club in July.
