Village halls' eco heating boost

A village hall is using loft insulation made out of sheep's wool

Four community buildings in Cumbria have been given grants to install eco-friendly heating systems.

The cash, from the Lake District Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) has been allocated to new schemes to make community buildings more efficient.

The pay-outs, which range from £1,600 to £12,000, are to three village halls and a school.

Initiatives include a wood pellet heating system and loft insulation made from sheep's wool.

Helsington and Brigsteer village hall, near Kendal, has been awarded £12,000 for a wood pellet heating system.

A planned new village hall in Newbiggin, near Penrith, will get £10,000 for a ground source heat pump.

Gosforth primary school, which is aiming to get electricity from solar heat, will have £10,000,

And £1,600 will go towards sheep wool loft insulaton at Cartmel Fell village hall.
