Four alerts for mountain rescuers

A mountain rescue team was called out four times on one day to assist walkers in the Lake District.

Langdale Ambleside volunteers were first alerted to a man with chest pains on Angle Tarn, Great Langdale, on Monday afternoon.

After he was airlifted to hospital the team attended incidents on Helm Crag, in Grasmere, then at Sergeant Man and Stickle Tarn, in Langdale.

Two women had a vomiting illness, while a third was suffering leg pains.

Mountain rescue teams in the Lake District had their busiest year on record in 2008.

Teams dealt with 464 call-outs, up from 425 in 2007, according to the Lake District Mountain Rescue Association.
