Carlisle City Council is responsible for licensing gambling premises
|
Residents and businesses in Carlisle are being asked for their comments on how the city council should manage gambling licences. New laws transferred the licensing of gambling premises to local authorities from January 2007. Carlisle City Council published a Statement of Gambling Policy at the time, but it is now up for review. A 12-week consultation exercise, also involving the police and existing licence holders, has begun. The Gambling Act 2005 introduced sweeping changes in the licensing of gambling, and transferred authority from the magistrates courts' to local authorities. Under this, operating and personal licences were licensed by the Gambling Commission, with local authorities licensing the premises.
