Drug dealing ex-soldier is jailed

A former soldier who claimed he became hooked on heroin while in prison has been jailed for dealing drugs.

Michael Gilmour, 33, of Oakleigh Way, Carlisle, said he started using heroin while serving time for a motoring offence, the city's crown court heard.

He admitted possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply and was jailed for three years.

The court heard how Gilmour intended to give the heroin to his girlfriend. He also admitted possessing cannabis.
