Warning to women after sex attack

Police have warned women in Carlisle to be vigilant after a 21-year-old was sexually assaulted by two attackers who could be aged as young as 13.

The victim was walking from Stanwix Bank to Cavendish Terrace early on Sunday when she was set upon.

Her attackers are described as white and aged between 13 and 20. One was wearing a dark Nike tracksuit. The other had on a white V-neck jumper.

Women in the city have been urged not to walk alone at night.

Det Supt Cath Thundercloud of Cumbria Police said: "We think the victim had been out in town in Carlisle with friends and she was on her way home when she was assaulted.

"We are anxious to hear from anyone who may have information or may have seen anything in the Stanwix Bank and Cavendish Terrace area, close to the cricket and ski clubs.

"We are advising women to take sensible precautions such as avoiding walking alone at night and staying to well-lit and well-used areas."
