Residents get their say on change

Residents of a Cumbrian village will be given powers to change their community for the better as part of a week-long radical scheme.

"Together We Can" is an action plan which enables people in Harraby to influence community decisions.

Local authorities, Cumbria NHS, police, the fire service and other community groups will work with locals to target what changes they want to see.

Events will take place throughout the week for people to have their say.

Cumbria County Councillor Barbara Cannon said: "The project recognises that public bodies don't always have all the answers to the specific issues in a specific area.

"I believe that local people are the experts at understanding which services work well in their area, and which don't.

"Together We Can aims to put local people in a position to influence improvements to local services."
