Valley water power plan approved

A plan to bring hydro-electricity to a remote Cumbrian community has moved a step closer.

A proposal for a small hydro electric power station to supply homes in the Longsleddale valley, near Kendal in the Lake District, has been approved.

The small concrete unit, with an underground pipe, will convert mountain stream water into power.

Bill Jefferson, Lake District National Park Authority chairman, said he expected to see many more such schemes.
