Shop worker attacked with hammer

A shop worker needed treatment after being hit over the head during a robbery at an off-licence on Tyneside.

Two robbers targeted Archbold Wines in Trevor Terrace, North Shields, and demanded cash during Friday's raid.

One of them attacked a member of staff with a hammer before they both ran off with a small amount of cash.

The injured worker was treated at the scene by a paramedic but did not need to go to hospital. Police described the assault as "nasty."

Det Sgt Dave Swinburne, of North Shields CID said: "This was a nasty incident and we're keen to hear from anyone who can give us information about this crime."
