Farm animals rescued from floods

Stranded sheep
The sheep were cut of when the River Eden burst its banks

Firefighters used a boat to rescue up to 100 sheep left stranded by flood water in Cumbria.

The animals were trapped by rising water upstream of Eden bridge at Rickerby Park in Carlisle on Sunday.

Members of Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service used a boat to get to the sheep and managed to usher them to safety.

None of the animals were injured and they were eventually loaded onto a farm trailer before being ferried to higher, safer ground.
