Car caught in surf during storm

Car rescue
Bad weather hampered the rescue effort

A family had a lucky escape when their car was caught in surf during a storm in Cumbria.

Rescue vessels from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency removed the vehicle from the sea at Maryport.

Police were also called as it was initially feared people were trapped inside. However, they had managed to get out in time.

The rescue effort on Sunday was hampered by bad weather, including gale force winds.
