Conference seeks to reduce waste

Ways of reducing, reusing and recycling waste are being discussed at a meeting in Cumbria.

Resource Cumbria, the waste partnership between the county and the six district councils, is holding its first annual conference at Rheged near Penrith.

Tuesday's event brings together key stakeholders in local waste management.

They will examine whether the county is meeting its objectives in reducing landfill and how more emphasis can be put on waste prevention and reuse.

Ray Bloxham, chairman of Cumbria Strategic Waste Partnership, said: "It is a good opportunity for the partnership to look at its achievements and how we can build on its successes for the benefit of all our communities."
