'Detective' attempts credit fraud

A man claiming to be a police detective has tried to gain access to credit card details in an attempted telephone scam.

Police said a resident in Grange, near Keswick, was telephoned and asked for credit card details by a man who said he was from Carlisle CID.

Following an investigation into the incident on Wednesday, police found the officer named did not work for them.

Cumbria Police is now warning people to be vigilant when giving out personal information over the telephone.
