Heart baby loses battle for life

Theo Davis
Theo died at the weekend

A baby who battled through six operations after being born with half a heart has died in hospital.

Theo Davis from Keswick, Cumbria, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome but was allowed home for a time while awaiting a donor organ.

But the 14-month-old developed complications and was admitted back into hospital for treatment.

Parents Rebecca Giles and Ryan Davis confirmed Theo died at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital at the weekend.

Ms Giles said: "I always knew I would lose Theo one day, I knew that in my heart from day one.

Amazed doctors

"He has changed my life and I will never forget my little boy."

The couple is now appealing for bereaved parents to consider donating their babies' organs to transplant organisations.

Theo was given just weeks to live without a heart transplant in June.

But he amazed doctors two months later when he began breathing on his own, and was taken off the transplant list and allowed to go home.

It was thought his apparent rapid recovery would mean Theo only needing a new heart when he reached his teens.

His parents are due to announce funeral plans later.
