Heart baby in return to hospital

Theo Davis
Theo only has half a heart and has had six operations

A Cumbrian baby born with half-a-heart, who defied doctors by going home from hospital despite being given weeks to live, has had to return for surgery.

Theo Davis from Keswick, who has hypoplastic left heart syndrome, had five operations to keep him alive while he waited for a donor organ.

But the one-year-old amazed doctors when he recovered enough to be allowed home last month.

However he has developed complications and had another heart operation.

The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle has not said how serious the baby's condition is.

Theo's parents Rebecca Giles and Ryan Davis are at his bedside.

It was thought that following his rapid recovery, baby Theo would only need a new heart when he reached his teens.
