Second union backs strike action

Sellafield
The Unite union has already backed industrial action

A second union at the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant has voted to strike in a dispute over pay.

Members of the GMB union, which represents about 2,500 of the Cumbria site's 10,000 workforce, rejected a 2% basic pay rise.

Unite has already backed industrial action, but a third union, Prospect, called off its ballot in August after agreeing a deal.

Union officials will meet on Thursday to decide a date for action.

GMB official Steve Gibbons said: "This sends a clear message to the management that they need to make an improved offer or else the site will be disrupted."

A spokeswoman for Sellafield Ltd had earlier said that the company remained committed to finding a resolution through negotiation.
