Man in court over officer assault

A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting a police officer and possessing amphetamines with intention to supply in Cumbria.

Alan James Johnston, from Newton Street in Millom, was arrested near Allonby on 29 August.

It is alleged he assaulted the officer in an attempt to resist arrest.

The 39-year-old was refused bail and remanded in custody by West Allerdale magistrates where he is due to appear again on 2 October.
