Three new schools open to pupils

The opening of three secondary schools marks a new era of education in Cumbria, education bosses have said.

The Richard Rose Central and the Morton Academy, both in Carlisle, admitted students on Thursday. The West Lakes Academy in Egremont is also now open.

The chief executive of the Richard Rose Federated Academies, described the facilities as state-of-the-art.

However, teaching unions said they were still negotiating over pay and conditions for the academies' staff.
