Actor Ricky Tomlinson kicked off one of the largest free festivals to take place in Cumbria.

Thousands of people attended the one-day Paint The Town Red festival in Workington on Saturday.

Music, arts and literary events made up the majority of the festival at venues in Curwen and Vulcan parks, as well as the town centre.

The Royle Family star officially opened the festival before hosting a talk at Workington library.

Other attractions included stunt drivers and a display of daytime fireworks at Workington Hall.

Organisers, the Rotary Club of Workington, hope it will become a regular event held every two years.
