Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in Cumbria have issued an E-fit of a man thought to be her attacker.

The 16-year-old was assaulted as she was walking along Mossbay Road in Workington on Thursday night.

The attacker, who had a partially shaved eyebrow and bruising to one of his thumbs, was about 22 years old, 6ft tall and with a stocky build.

He may also have a blue spot tattoo under the knuckle of his little finger.

The man is also believed to have been wearing a dark coloured Nike hooded top and tracksuit bottoms.

He was last seen running in the direction of Workington Rugby Union Club.

Det Ch Insp Keith Capstick, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a serious sex assault on a young girl.

"It is important that anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident or who thinks they may have information gets in touch."
